Wine Podcasts Worth Listening To

Although podcasts have been around for years, since the advent of the iPod and other Apple devices in fact, it is only in recent times that they have found such intense popularity.

A number of factors have impacted this from the quality of podcast available to increasing data allowances and the number of devices that cater for them, but the result is that the user has a great wealth of information available to them these days.

Football, entertainment, politics and gaming are some of the most popular genres for podcasts if you look at the charts but there is an ever burgeoning scene present when it comes to wine podcasts these days. The Octavian Vaults team have been getting stuck in to see which of these would be the best use of time for our current and prospective customers.

True to form, we have compiled this list of every sommelier podcast worth listening to so you can continue to develop your fine wine knowledge and hear what the experts are talking about month after month.

Guild of Sommeliers

If you have your eye on becoming a sommelier or have years of experience and simply want to keep up to date with the inner world of fine wine, then you should certainly give this wine podcast a go.

Hosted by one of the biggest names in the business, Geoff Kruth, episodes include all manner of wine chat including the best emerging regions, pairings and the latest in service tips.

The Guild of Sommeliers members also have their say on the latest from the industry and there are regular guests making this one of the most regularly downloaded sommelier podcasts out there.

UK Wine Show

You will find this one quite prominently featured in iTunes when searching for the latest wine podcast and rightly so, as it covers the latest topics from across the UK wine industry. It is inevitably quite limited in the fact that it just focuses on the latest conversations in this country, but if you are a merchant or sommelier who works in the United Kingdom that may be just what you are looking for.

The UK Wine Show podcast has regular interviews and is listened to by wine businesses from across the nation looking to ensure they are top of the latest trends. Producers and industry experts regularly take part in this podcast and give their take on the breaking news from the sector.

Grape Radio

This aptly named wine and sommelier podcast is hosted by graperadio.com, which many of you may have come across due to the fascinating articles it also has on its website. But their reputation has obviously been built on their great podcast which has won the much coveted James Beard award in the past.

The show is hosted by Eric Anderson and Jay Selman, who are regarded as experts in every aspect of the grape and they have an uncanny knack of getting some incredible guests on the podcast, which keeps listeners coming back time after time. Wine experts from across the globe have been known to contribute to this wine podcast which is ideal for novices all the way up to seasoned fine wine aficionados.

I’ll Drink To That!

Finally, I’ll Drink To That! Talking Wine with Levi Dalton, is one of our favourites here at Octavian Vaults due to the fact that it regularly contains content contributed by former sommeliers. Dalton invites all manner of wine professional to his apartment where they debate and discuss everything from their lives and work to latest trends in the world of fine wine.

Due to the fact that this podcast is hosted by the Wine Editor for the Eater NY, you can rest assured all the content on this show is of the highest possible calibre and you can expect to hear the thoughts of winemakers, traders, sommeliers and writers alike as they debate the latest breaking wine news. This is probably one of the most diverse and entertaining wine podcasts you will listen to due to its host, we really can’t recommend it highly enough.

As podcasts in general continue to get more and more popular, there are bound to me more wine shows just like these coming onto the scene in the future but these are certainly are top picks for the time being. If you haven’t embraced podcasts yet, then we suggest you do so as they can be a great way of continuing to learn about fine wine whilst you go about your day and they can be hugely entertaining as well.

We hope you enjoy listening to these wine podcasts and remember we have a wealth of other wine articles and features available right here at the Octavian Vaults site for you to check too. Enjoy!
